Follow-up is one of the hardest skills to perfect when you’re an idea-man like yourself. That’s why some of the best and successful organizations seem to have started with an idea-man and a detail-man team. I agree it’s hard when you’re your own “department” like there at DINFOS. Keep one basic “rule” in mind. At the end of the day it’s better to have one finished project than ten just-started ones.

We have to do something. As it stands now, most people are operating rogue.

Intent from the highest levels has driven the ambitious out into uncharted territory. This is fine for initial exploration, but even pioneers needed trading posts, orderly towns and eventually, cities as things progressed.

Mechanisms and ordered infrastructure needs to be put in place. Like a city’s grid system. Who knows what companies will build whatever skyscrapers? The point of civil engineering is to cultivate and prepare the space for the city to grow into.

Likewise with social media, we need to be preparing the ground for the crop of applications and technologies that will emerge.

Thank you for this post. This is something that we must continually fight and advocate for, especially in a Gov 2.0 environment. Don’t just ban social media because it is difficult…if something scares you, let’s discuss it and how we can craft policy to address it. This is why I have suggested we form a new media steering committee at the state level with players from agencies, administration, and IT.
